Bird Plays: The Lark – 1967

Talk about a heroine who needed a Sassy Gay Friend!  This play by Jean Anouilh chronicles the trail, persecution, and execution of Joan of Arc, but the ending is all whacka-a-doo.  I won’t give away the ending (she doesn’t die), but I will say, Anouilh’s ending is definitely more dramatic than the ending Joan of Arc received in reality.  Either way, in the words of the SGF, “Slow down, crazy! Slow down!”  Below are some snapshots from the Wayne State production, which look pretty cool.  Either way, read the play – be literate.
