The Bonstelle Theatre will be full of hip-hop, storytelling and an interactive experiment with Twitter this February. The unique Twitter experience will take place on two nights, Saturday, February 19 and Friday, February 25 during the Michigan ensemble premiere of FLOW by Will Power. Twitter enthusiasts will have a special, reserved section of “Tweet Seats,” which are being offered at a $10 discount price. To purchase Tweet Seats, Tweeters can call the Wayne State Theatre Box Office at (313) 577-2960 or visit the box office at 4743 Cass Avenue on the corner of Cass and Hancock. Patrons wanting to sit in the Tweet section can provide code (4WB9) to receive the $10 offer.
Participants on these two Twitter nights will be able to Tweet before the show, during intermission and after the show as a way to enhance their experience at FLOW. The Bonstelle Company will also be Tweeting and engaged in the discussion. Rules and decorum guidelines will be distributed prior to the performance.
Words, rhymes and beats pulse through the dialogue of FLOW. It has a hip-hop sensibility that incorporates western African storytelling, dance and music. The show addresses issues of the past, present and future with commentary about drugs, street crime and the collapse of society. Broadway veteran and Detroit native Aku Kadogo will direct what was originally a one-man show by Will Power. “This show is about the power of stories,” said Kadogo. “Stories are the essence of life for humans, cities and major events and someone has to carry on the tale.”
FLOW’s story will be told in a 21st -century idiom by combining technology with live theatre. This Twitter event will be the first of its kind at the Bonstelle Theatre.
